UWSN 2016-2021 Strategic Plan

2017-18 UWSN Advocacy Report
2017 presented a set of advocacy challenges but the United Way of Southern Nevada’s partners and supporters united around the Community-Based Agenda and stepped up to advocate for the community we serve. Working in concert with our Board of Directors, Public Policy Committee, and community advocates, we identified priorities for the 2017 Legislative Session in our Policy Agenda and advocated to improve opportunity for all.

7 out of 10 Clark County children between the ages of 3 and 4 are not enrolled in early education centers. High quality early education programs helps children enter elementary school prepared to learn and read and helps parents earn more and miss less work. Clark County School District has a graduation rate of 74%, and the State of Nevada has some of the lowest graduation rates in the United States. The district struggles with gaps in student achievement for male, Hispanic, black, low-income, and other students. Five of the six neighborhood high schools with graduation rates below 74% draw students from North Las Vegas and areas east of Las Vegas Boulevard.
